The Jung Hotel & Residences

During World War II, the hotel continued to host grand events while supporting the war effort. The post-war years ushered in a new era, with the installation of WJMR’s 286-foot antenna atop the hotel, making it the second tallest structure in Louisiana and a center for radio broadcasting.

The Jung Hotel & Residences

A major renovation in the early 1950s transformed the Jung into the South’s largest hotel, now boasting 1,200 rooms, new cocktail lounges, and a redesigned Tulane Room. The Cotillion Lounge became a hotspot for entertainment, with performances featuring burlesque, comedy, and live music. The hotel also became a celebrity retreat, hosting icons like country music legend Hank Williams.

By the 1960s, the Jung was the premier destination for conventions, Mardi Gras balls, and major political events. The hotel hosted a campaign gala for President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964 and, in 1967, welcomed the newly formed New Orleans Saints with a special celebration featuring jazz legend Al Hirt.

The Jung Hotel & Residences

Between 1971 and 2012, the Jung changed ownership multiple times and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The Jung Hotel & Residences has been meticulously restored, bringing its storied past into a vibrant present. Just as a 1928 advertisement once proclaimed, The Jung continues to offer more than luxury—it provides a hospitality of spirit that lingers long after you leave.
